Volunteering with Wildlife

Volunteers to help with daily chores, bottle feeding, or transporting animals means Wildlife Rehabilitators are freed up to concentrate on critical patients, so you hold the power to help them save even more lives.

Raccoons are RVS (rabies vector species), so laws regarding fostering and caring for raccoons, or becoming ‘sub-permitted’ under a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator, vary greatly from state to state. We’d be thrilled to help guide you through the process since your assistance with the following tasks could help save hundreds more lives each year, as Rehabbers are freed to focus on intakes requiring more of their attention for critical care:

General cleaning, laundry, and refilling food/water bowls.

Picking up food/supplies/medications.

Transporting animals (cages/supplies would be provided).

Helping bottle feed babies every two to four hours, either onsite at the rehab facility or in your home. (‘Fosters’, if allowed in your state, would need a dedicated wildlife room in your home as well as permission from your landlord if renting). Classes, supplies, and formula would be provided at no cost to you.

Grant writing/event coordination/fundraising marketing/website development of their pages.

Please feel free to email Raccoon101email@gmail.com if you would like more details on how to help in your state, and we would be thrilled to introduce you to this wonderful world that brings our lives so much meaning and joy.

The following guide provides a very realistic glimpse into the daily life of a Wildlife Rehabilitator. It is very accurate, but please don’t let it scare you away before you’ve had the chance to experience these animals up close and in person, which is the driving force behind every Rehabber’s mission to save them, alleviate their suffering, and ultimately release them back to the wild.
